Role Models for Women today

What ever happened to the June Cleavers? In the 50's June Cleaver was who every women wanted to be and the wife every husband wanted to have.

Fast forward to present day and who are the roll models now? Desperate housewives? June Cleaver may be black and white, yes old fashioned but the true colors of the roll models women are directed toward following today leaves much to be desired.

Many women, moms especially feel overwhelmed and weighed down by the stress and pressures presented today. Increasing cases of postpartum depression leaves many new moms feeling like there is no way out of the overwhelming feelings they are experiencing.

Very simple changes to life styles can bring a load of new found happiness to your life. If you get down to the root of your feelings and understand why you may be feeling a certain way then there is room for change. It can be down right depressing to feel like there is no help for the way you are feeling.

We are all facing some sort of stress living in this stressful world we are in today. But the truth is there are many things you can do to increase your mental health and emotional health leading to an overall state of happiness.

Happiness can start with leading good habits in your life. Good habits such as:

*Cut back or Quit smoking.

*Eat as Healthy as possible

*Exercise can be helpful with as little as 30 minutes a day, including a brisk walk.

*Stay active

*Pick up a hobby, such as scrap booking, cooking, volunteer work etc.

You must balance yourself with work and play. Too much of either can and will lead to exhaustion and burnout. It has been said there is no I in team, but there is an I in marriage, take time to do something you enjoy. Watch a chick flick with your girlfriends every now and then. This can do a lot for the way you feel.

If you are a stay at home mom you no doubt have a heavy weight on your shoulders. The daunting task of daily cleaning the house, doing the laundry, cooking for the kids etc. can become overwhelming for any mom. Include your children in your daily activities. Making being a home with the kids fun. Set out a messy day- a day where you can break out the paints and get messy. Do things that make you feel like a kid again. You will find this not only makes you feel better but also gets you closer with your children.

If you look back to June Cleaver, she was involved in activities such as wedding planning and school activities but also took time for herself doing things such as cake decorating, needle point, reading books and magazines even making time to entertain her friends.

The point is, balance your home life with also taking care of yourself. A women needs her health and deserves a happy life.
