You can understand Depression | You can take control
Depression, defined as:
* a mental state characterized by a pessimistic sense of inadequacy and a despondent lack of activity
* sad feelings of gloom and inadequacy
Have you ever felt this way, yet did not know why or understand exactly where these feelings were coming from?
This is understandable, and you are not alone. Depression is so common that depression is thought to have effected, or is effecting 9 out of 10 people.
Although women are more prone to Depression, that does not mean men do not also suffer from depression as well. Depression effects men, women, young and old.
The question is, can you survive depression, cure or overcome depression?
Yes you can.
Talking is Therapy.
Do not be embarrassed of your depression. Talking out your feelings can save you from bottling up feelings and emotions especially if you have been feeling disturbed with your thoughts.
Talking out your feelings about depression with a professional such as a psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers and others with specialized training. However, some have found help by talking with a lovingly concerned minister.
Armand DiMele, director of the Center for Psychotherapy, observes: “The depressed person is protecting himself by shutting down his mind and body and not allowing any stimulation. For example, when someone suffers a loss such as a death, he may go into a depression rather than face the loss.” The job of the counselor is to help the sufferer to face the feelings and anxiety that come from such a loss. DiMele continues: “If the therapist sitting with him can really nurture him through and tell him what to anticipate in body sensations, then the person gradually realizes he can cope with the emotion, and the depression lifts.”
Burying feelings such as guilt, anger and resentment often leads to depression.
Some people criticize that you should just, get over it, or just change your mood this is much easier said than done, depression is real, and hurts.
Develop proper eating habits:
Not eating properly can cause mental disorders, including depression. Scientists have found that other nutritional deficiencies cause such symptoms as depression, nervous irritability, fatigue and personality changes.
Much research has linked vitamins, especially B-complex, with the conversion of amino acids, such as tryptophan, into neurotransmitters, which carry our thought impulses between nerve cells. A shortage of certain neurotransmitters has been associated with some types of depression.
Bottom line, when you take care of your body, it will take care of you. Eating healthy is a great way to fight the heartache and horrible effects of depression.
Understanding depression, and knowing your options will aid in you feeling better. Do not suffer in silence another day, attack the depression monster head on, and become a new you.
